چکیده

Introduction As the average body mass index (BMI) is increasing at an alarming rate, dichotomous literature exists regarding whether BMI protective or disadvantageous for fracture risk. Therefore, purpose of this study was to evaluate relationship between BMI, complexity, and post-operative complications tibial plateau fractures. Methods A retrospective analysis National Surgical Quality Improvement Program’s database years 2005–2018 completed. Only patients undergoing primary surgical fixation isolated were included. Patients then stratified into unicondylar bicondylar patterns by CPT code. Multivariate logistic regression analyses used assess risk factors severity, complications, staged fixation. Results Of 3454 identified inclusion, we found that with higher BMIs more likely sustain a compared lower BMIs. For each additional point, sustaining increased 1.0%. Additionally, there 3.8% every point. Specifically, deep infection 6.1%, wound dehiscence 8.5%, venous thromboembolism 4.2%. Conclusion This data demonstrates elevated associated complexity complications. These results may be help surgeons hospitals identify at-risk guide perioperative management in effort mitigate such as much possible.
